Preservation of Critical Data

OTI offers three data backup service plans to assist departments with the protection of critical IT data and fulfillment of the objectives of the university's Information Technology Disaster Recovery and Data Backup Policy .

Plan 1 - Departmental Backup to UCS Disk Stores

This plan provides for the use of OTI's Network Attached Storage (NAS) system as an off-site back-up disk copy of departmental data. This service does not, however, include backup to tape in the Sliger Building or at the remote Disaster Recovery site.

Plan 2 - Data Storage and Backup

This plan provides for the use of OTIs's Network Attached Storage (NAS) system as a department's primary disk stores. Data stored under this plan are backed up on a daily basis to the tape backup system in the Sliger Building and at the remote Disaster Recovery site.

Plan 3 - Departmental Data Backup to Tape

This plan provides for direct departmental use of OTI's tape backup system (Tivoli Storage Manager). OTI will provide the appropriate client software for the department's file server and initial training and assistance in the use of the tape backup system. Data are stored in the Sliger Building and at the remote Disaster Recovery site.
