The Service Scholar Program is designed to recognize students with an outstanding record of service and leadership and to promote civic responsibility as an integral part of a liberal arts education at Floirda State University. Admission to the Progam is reserved to freshmen who have demonstrated excellence in service and leadership in planning and promoting service among their peers. Applicants must evidence an interest in strenghtening their skills and deepening their attitudes towards service. Both quantity and quality of the applicants' service and leadership experience will be considered.
At Florida State University, Service Scholars will complete a minimum of 75 service hours per semester, participate in individual and group service projects, attend regular meetings, and promote civic participation among their peers (please visit www.serve2learn.fsu.edu and click on the Service Scholars heading for more information). The Program includes an annual $2,400 service scholarship, which is automatically renewed each year, for four years, provided requirements are met. |
Service Scholars will be affiliated with the Center for Leadership & Civic Education and will participate in activities and events of the Center. It is expected that Service Scholars will emerge as campus leaders of the service movement.
The Service Scholars Program seeks diversity among its participants in relation to their background and interests. Acceptance into the Service Scholar Program is competitive; only freshmen with a distinguished record of community involvement and a strong desire to continue to learn through service are encouraged to apply.
