Online Graduate Certificate in Coaching

 


Description

Coaching occurs at all levels of sports from amateur, interscholastic, intercollegiate, professional and international. This certificate program allows individuals in coaching positions to receive training in specific areas that will increase the level of satisfaction and success of the coaches, participants and administrators. These courses will allow coaches to be able to develop the coaching competencies in the areas set by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE).Those competencies include coaching philosophy and ethics, safety and injury prevention, physical conditioning, growth and development, teaching and communication, sport skills and tactics, organization and administration and evaluation of their program.The Graduate Certificate in Coaching is designed to provide online advanced coaching education to people coaching in:

  • Youth Leagues
  • Recreation Leagues
  • Interscholastic
  • Amateur clubs
  • Collegiate (NCAA, NJCAA, NAIA)
  • International
  • Professional

Program Information

This program requires 12 credit hours of course work offered online.  Four courses will provide students with advanced knowledge, skills and abilities in different areas of coaching. The education and skills learned in the courses will provide the latest techniques for today’s coaches.

Admissions

Acceptance into the Coaching Certificate Program is based on the following requirement:

  • Students with a Bachelors’ degree from an accredited institution are eligible to enroll as a graduate-level special student (non-degree seeking).


  • OR

  • Graduate students in good standing at Florida State University
  • Current enrollment in the Sport Management graduate program.

Application to both the University and the Coaching Certificate program can be completed online using the appropriate applications:

Courses offered in the Coaching Certificate Program can be taken as part of a regular graduate program of study, or through enrollment as a part-time non-degree special student. Students may enroll in the courses without applying to the Coaching Certificate program; however, the certificate will only be awarded to students who have been accepted into the program. To receive the Coaching Certificate, students must complete the required twelve (12) hours of course work including the professional portfolio within a five year time period from the date of acceptance into the program and earn a grade of C or better.

Admission to the Coaching Certificate Program is neither a degree program nor a minor.  However, up to twelve (12) hours of graduate level credit with a grade of "B" or better in each course may count toward the Master of Science degree in Sport Management, provided the student qualifies for admission to the graduate degree program.

Transfer credit hours from other universities or colleges will not be accepted.

Technology Requirements

Students will be required to obtain an FSU/ACNS e-mail account in order to access the course website. In order to complete class requirements, class participants will need to be able to:

  • Access the Internet – this will require a high-speed, broadband connection,
    • Be familiar with Internet Explorer or Firefox browsers or both
  • Download and upload document files,
  • Download, view, and listen to PowerPoint presentations,
  • Download and view PDF files using Acrobat Reader or similar software,
  • Access to digital camcorder for lesson/assignment recording,
  • Utilize Real Player or Windows Media to download, view, and listen to digital media,
  • Download and install software and plugins such as Adobe Reader, Real Audio, etc., and
  • Send and receive e-mails.

Costs

The courses in this program have been developed and are delivered by full-time faculty or by adjuncts. Distance learning students, therefore, have the same high quality instruction as students on the main campus, plus special assistance from Academic & Professional Program Services to insure success. The University Board of Trustees establishes tuition and fees. Distance learning students are expected to pay tuition and other associated fees.

    • Florida resident: $355.75 per credit hour
    • Florida resident residing in Leon, Gadsden or Wakulla Counties (non-campus students): $375.75 per credit hour
    • Non-Florida resident: $987.15 per credit hour
  • Books
    • We estimate the cost of books and course materials for an academic year to be $350.00. Students are responsible for the cost and shipping fees of all books and course materials.
