Forum to discuss 'Death Penalty: Evolving Issues in Florida'

The Florida State University Center for the Advancement of Human Rights and the American Bar Association (ABA), in cooperation with The Constitution Project, will present "The Death Penalty: Evolving Issues in Florida," a two-hour forum on Monday, Nov. 14. Among the distinguished participants expected to provide perspective and commentary at the forum are:

  • Talbot "Sandy" D'Alemberte, FSU president emeritus, former dean of the FSU College of Law and former American Bar Association president
  • Raoul Cantero, former Florida Supreme Court justice
  • Janet Ferris, Second Judicial Circuit judge (retired)
  • O.H. Eaton, 18th Judicial Circuit judge (retired) and a former member of the ABA Florida death-penalty assessment team
  • Harry Shorstein, former Fourth Judicial Circuit state attorney and former member of the ABA Florida death penalty assessment team
  • Mike Minerva, CEO, Innocence Project of Florida, former 2nd Judicial Circuit public defender, and former member of the ABA Florida death-penalty assessment team
  • Stephen Hanlon, chairman, The Constitution Project, and former chairman of the ABA Death Penalty Project
  • Mark Olive, renowned capital case litigator
  • Chris Slobogin, law professor at Vanderbilt University and former chair of the ABA Florida death-penalty assessment team
  • Les Garringer, executive director of the Florida Innocence Commission and former Monroe County, Fla., judge
  • Frank Patterson, dean, Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts
  • State legislators who have filed death penalty-related bills for consideration during the 2012 regular legislative session

The forum is free and open to the public and will be held:
